New Minimum Wages For Maryland and DC employees

October 1 marked a new day in minimum wage for many local employees.

Montgomery County, Md – new minimum wage is $8.40.  Will go to $9.55 on 10/1/15, $10.75 on 10/1/16, and $11.50 on 10/1/17.

Prince George’s County, Md- new minimum wage is $8.40.  Will go to $9.55 on 10/1/15, $10.75 on 10/1/16, and $11.50 on 10/1/17.

As a reminder,

D.C. – minimum wage is now $9.50, effective July 1, 2014.  Will go to $10.50 7/1/15, and $11.50 on 7/1/2016.  Future increases will be tied to inflation.

Maryland’s minimum wage currently is $7.25.  will go to $8 on 1/1/15 and $8.25 on 7/15.    Further increases include $8.75 in 2016 and $9.25 in 2017.  By July 1,2018, minimum wage in Maryland will be $10.10.

There are open questions as to whether the Montgomery and PG County rates are legally enforceable (and by whom)… but the stakes are high for wage claims so the smart bet in my opinion is to pay the new rates for covered employees!
