New OSHA Guidance for the Service Industry

Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Labor through the Office of Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued the following helpful guidance for service industry employers—  

COVID-19 Guidance for Restaurants Resuming Dine-In Service
Stay home if you are sick
Comply with state & local occupancy restrictions
Require staff to wear face coverings
Increase cleaning & disinfecting of commonly touched surfaces
Wash, rinse & sanitize dishware, utensils & beverage equipment after each use
Maintain 6’ distance from others
Avoid direct hand-to-hand contact when possible
Use mobile ordering, text on arrival for serving & contactless payment options when feasible
Report health & safety concerns to a supervisor

Steps to Protect Cleaning Staff During COVID-19
Stay home if you are sick
Wear a face covering
Avoid dry sweeping if feasible
Wear disposable gloves
Wipe equipment before & after use
Use EPA-approved disinfectants or cleaning chemicals
Use the warmest water level that is safe
Dry laundry completely
Frequent hand washing
Maintain 6’ distance from others
Wash clothes as soon as possible when returning home
Report health & safety concerns to a supervisor

COVID-19 Guidance for In-Home Repair Services
Stay home if you are sick
Inquire if anyone in the home is sick prior to arrival
When possible delay non-emergency work in the homes of symptomatic individuals
Encourage the use of face coverings for in-home visits
Wear gloves and use disinfectants/sanitizers
Avoid shaking hands
Maintain 6’ distance from others
Use walls, closed doors or plastic sheeting to separate workers & occupants
Regularly clean & disinfect tools and equipment with EPA-approved chemicals
Avoid sharing tools & equipment when possible
Report health & safety concerns to a supervisor
